Creatures Born In Secret is a documentary inspired by the universe of Buffoons - people who carry the ancient stigma that dwarfs are the providers of people's amusement. This short portrays the current lives of five dwarfs in cosmopolitan Sao Paulo.
Working fiction in a documental way, Chico Teixeira has always gone for stories about personal and family conflicts. He constantly focus on the character's anxieties and ungranted wishes, and works with believable and popular stories, capturing the intensity of human relations within a simple life.
Teixeira started his carreer directing documentaries, approaching themes of a certain "weirdness". One of those is Creatures Born in Secret (1995), winner of several awards.
His second documentary, The inner me (2000) was financed by the Jan Vrijman Foundation - Amsterdam. It was screened at several international festivals, such as IDFA, Bangkok Film Festival and Oslo International Film Festival.
His 1st narrative feature, Alice's House, which premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival, gave him international recognition. Alice's House was screened at 63 international film festivals, among them San Sebastian International Film Festival, 37th International Film Festival Rotterdam, 18éme Rencontres Cinemas d’Amérique Latine de Toulouse - Cinelatino, Miami International Film Festival, 21st Fribourg Film Festival, 26th annual Vancouver International Film Festival, Edinburgh International Film Festival, 3rd Berlinale in Athens Film Festival, Guadalajara International Film Festival, La Rochelle International Film Festival and Göteborg Film Festival.
