Not all visually impaired people are blind. Many of them have something called "low eyesight" and, in many cases, would only need few stimulus to be totally integrated in society as independent and productive people. The main concern of the film are the capabilities, the numerous possibilities of inclusion, the incentives, understanding and fighting all kinds of prejudice.
The daily basis of four people is recorded while they perform their duties, showing us that after the loss of sight the other senses flourish. The idea was to show the normalcy in these people’s lives, mostly their independence and uncountable professional abilities. “Skin Feelings” intends to raise awareness in public and private companies as well as helping extinguish prejudice in general society.
Independence and productivity are the two main angles of the documentary. The production got rid of the atmosphere of pity and of corny sentimentalism which usually takes place in films about desabled people. If opportunities are created to considerably increase their employment, visually impaired people will become common citizens. This reality is already a fact in some way because there is a large number of people acting in not so conventional areas and images like these must be shown so that all prejudice can finally be overcome.
As the goal is to raise awareness for inclusion and fight against every kind of prejudice, the target audience are the opinion makers like journalists, publicitaries, artists, entrepeneurs, politicians, teachers, school principals and every person who is still resisting to give job opportunities to visual impaired people.
According to the Population Census 2000, from Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística (IBGE), there are 16.644.842 people with some permanent difficulty to see in the Brazilian population. They are more than 1,6 million Brazilian citizens with some type of visual disability, the vast majority with "low eyesight".
The big villain of discrimination is always lack of knowledge. When we don't know about a certain subject we tend to create a monster which does not exist. The documentary has the goal and mission to dissipate prejudices with as much information about the visual impairment issue staying far from the melodramatic atmosphere which is frequently used in "institutional" movies related to deficiency, especially about the mentioned disability.

Skin Feelings follows the daily life of visually impaired people who make a living in a very non-traditional way. We live in a world increasingly dominated by visual image. Partial ou complete visual loss leads to an increase in other human senses, which become more accurate. The main concern of the film are the capabilities, the numerous possibilities of inclusion, the incentives, understanding and fighting all kinds of prejudice.
